yd22DDT or yd22DDTi?

I was actually just coming to the same conclusion, that there was a missing intercooler. So much so I was just reading Ed's thread on how to fit an uprated one and also scouring ebay for one. That might have to stay on my wish-list though for the time being but I am certainly not dis-interested. when the time comes, get your people to fax my people and we may do lunch! lol (edit to ask) Would yours have the appropriate pipework or would i need to create/source that myself?

Just been pondering another point. I can move to new thread or section if required - At what point are my insurance company going to have a moan? I'm guessing that OEM alloys might need to be declared as optional extra (when they're purchased)? the nissan 6 speed gearbox, hybrid turbo swapped for reliability, DMF and clutch etc replaced with stock etc? Am I right in thinking that they wouldn't "care" about these? Obviously I don;t want to ring them up and ask "Hey guys, fancy a few extra beers on Friday night for upping my premiums?" but at the same time, I don;t want to invalidate any claims in the future.

Would it not be better selling urs and buying say a 3 door 05 sxe 136 no mods to declare and better spec/colour, plus maybe saving money ?

Yes, it probably would but who's going to buy her from me with a clucth and flywheels that's about to fail? In honesty, what you suggest is what I SHOULD do.

I'd need to get clutch&flywheel done before anyone would take her off me, surely? Whilst they're getting done, may as well throw in a 6speed gearbox as most of my mileage is motorways. That'll need ECU work so may as well tweek her a little for "Economy" (cough). That was my logic, thinking a few hundred now will keep her running for several more years.

The hybrid turbo would be there, more so I am not paranoid about it exploding and devastating my car. Obviously, I'm sure the remap engineer will see it that way also lol. . Buying another almera will still need turbo replacing unless it was bought from someone who knows about the problems.

Besides, most of the actual work will be free as it'll be done by myself and a couple of mechanically proficient friends. I am an IT engineer who studied general engineering at college, over 20 years ago so between ourselves, youtube and AOC, I'm hoping that it'll mostly just cost parts and a remap. I'm not averse to the occasional "creative and ingenious solution, using available technology" or Bodge, for short

Also, being able to fix an old diesel will be an invaluable skill when the zombiepocalypse happens. lol.

How much are you expecting to get all this done for the hybrid aint gonna be cheap ? a quick totting up of what you have just mentioned is around the 1k mark no ? imo the almera turbo thing has been blown out of proportion a bit like the 1.5 timing chain issue due to people not changing the oil often enough or maybe poor quality oil, maybe thrashing the car regular or not letting the turbo wind down for a few secs before turning the ignition off. guess time will tell on this as mines standard but only been on about a year and a half, it only does motorway runs also like urself.

Yeah, that's about my totalling too. £550-600 with same DMF/clutch as I have now. About 550ish with clutch DMF from the 136 with a 6speed box costing 150-200 2nd-hand. Hopefully the seller of said gearbox will also have selector and cables. A friend of mine says he knows someone who can do the ECU work cheeply and I think it is better to make sure, with the turbo now, rather than find-out the hard way later. I think I saw Ed say that they're about 300ish in another of his threads.

By my logic (possibly flawed, as always) these wouldn;t even count as mods. I'm kinda hoping that right up until I add that intercooler of Liams (Would be really nice, if only for the "shits and giggles factor" alone) that the insurance would see it as replacing worn components with standard nissan components. it's just a slightly different drive chain setup for a more fuel efficient gearbox for my driving. Is this just wishful thinking in my part?

That'll teach me for trying to read too many threads at once and not writing things down.

Turbo might get put off for another day.

Makes no sense to me. It'll cost you more than just buying one outright, when you can pick them up for peanuts anyway.

HI everyone

Been a busy week for me with work and family stuff but have decided that your combined wisdom and logic is far greater than my own.

I am going to look at a black 136 later this week. 111k on clock but new clutch/DMF swapped at 109k.

I'll then take my car over towards London and put it up for sale over there.

As a lot of you have stated, this is a much cheeper option that doesn;t compromise my insurance policy. It also gives me a short window of time to send turbo from 112 off to Turbo-Technics for a part-ex without taking my only means of transport off the road, before I sell my 112.

Thanks for advice and info, I'll update if/when I buy the 136.

Roger
