srbryan N15 Pulsar VZR DP1

@charley: Running issue I think is nearly sorted just waiting to get a lend of a part just to confirm and I will update when this hopefully sorts it.
As for the sticker I'll keep the geuine vzr one when i get it just to stand out lol. alot of green 1.4s around here.

Did a few small job yesterday that alot would probably think are stupid or pointless but they bother me:)
The old battery clamp was horrible looking, rusty and all bent and warped so i decided to make my own with a old piece of flat bar that was lying around.
Also had to make a new tie down rod out of threaded bar cause one of the old ones was a tad bit short with the new clamp.

IMG_1022.JPG

Threaded bar cut down and hammerite the 2 bars to be used.
IMG_1023 (2).jpg

Also removed the factory strut brace and removed the paint off it but don't know if i should polish it or re-paint it?IMG_1018.JPG

IMG_1017.JPG

IMG_1025.JPG

And my job for later on today is to fix the bracket that holds the expansion bottle in place
IMG_1028.JPG

I would paint it or plasti-dip it back to black...only to match the intake and hosing etc, but it's your choice:D

Carried on with my jobs this afternoon, finished off the expansion bottle holder, I basically melted the broken bit back on and added a little metal bracket for extra strenghth.

IMG_1034.JPG

Then decided to tidy up the wiring that runs along the valve cover before i put the bottle back in:rolleyes: and i got carried away.
IMG_1036.JPG

Decided i wanted to seperate the alternator wiring from the rest of the wiring, remove the aircon wiring and run the rest of the loom round the back of the p/s resevoir so started stripping it back.

Now my question is the power steering pipes above, Are they needed atal or can i remove them and loop the pipes together? Do they really need a cooler for the fluid?

Also decided to strip the whole front off the car so that i could
A: clean up and protect the under arches before i put on the liners.
B: change the door hinges
C: maybe mount the relay box inside the wing to de-cluter that side of the bay.

Took off the skirts and tbh after hearing some horror stories i thought i might find rust or holes in the sill but thank fuck it was perfect on both sides so i'm delighted:D
And i found what must have been a few kg worth of muck stuck on the inside of both skirts.
IMG_1049.JPG

Next off was bumper, headlights and bumper support and both wings and was pleased again to see that it is very clean except for a bit of surface rust.
IMG_1050.JPG

IMG_1051.JPG

Started on one side with the wire brush on the drill and it was cleaning up lovely.

IMG_1053.JPG

Also removed the aerial on the roof as i hardly listen to FM anyway. I plan on trying to make a blank like the one @'Paris' made in his thread.

IMG_1054.JPG

IMG_1055.JPG

And this is how i left it for the evening.

IMG_1056.JPG

Gonna go at it again Tuesday evening hopefully.
I'll get the front up in the air and drop the front suspension so i can clean around the arches properly.

What should iI use to protect them? i want something easy to use but strong and long lasting cause i don't want to do it again?

Good work man no shortcuts..get 3m underbody sealant and hook it up to a compressor..Good tough stuff with a nice stipple effect..around 12e a can in the factors and you'll do the entire can with 3 tins ..just make sure it's all cleaned / brushed down well beforehand..

Thanks dudes i'll try and see if i can get some for good money.

Carried on this eve whilst i had a few hours spare. Started off by removing the power steering cooling pipes, was handy enought just got a little bit messy.

IMG_1057.JPG

Then removed the p/s bottle to freshen it up aswell.
IMG_1058.JPG

IMG_1060.JPG

IMG_1062.JPG

and while i'm going to be cleaning down the whole front end carried on with taking off and wire brushing everything i can.

IMG_1064.JPG

IMG_1066.JPG

Took off the bonnet catch and started cleaning, painting the catch and springs.

Me left at home alone is always a bad idea for my mrs:D
Manged to get a set of phase 2 fogs and covers but they were in worse shape than what i thought they were going to be, one of the fogs had leaked water at some stage before so was full of sand and the reflector had rusted to looked fairly poor to be fair and on both fogs some of the clips and holders were missing or broken and glued back on.
Since i had near mint phase 1 fogs decided to swap the glass on them.

IMG_1076.JPG
This is the second one, was in good condition just broken clips.
IMG_1077.JPG

IMG_1078.JPG

Into the oven they go.
IMG_1083.JPG

120 degrees and 10 mins later

IMG_1085.JPG

Finally found a good use for the dish brush:cool:

IMG_1086.JPG

and back in again just to soften the glue.
IMG_1087.JPG

And one done
IMG_1088.JPG

Got the other side done aswell and all done.
IMG_1093.JPG

Decided to do a few dishes while i was still in the kitchen!!
IMG_1090.JPG

IMG_1091.JPG

IMG_1092.JPG

We will see how this turns out.

The few bits came out the dishwasher and i was pleased enough with it, the bottle doesn't look brand new but clean enough.
IMG_1094.JPG

And a few bits that i painted a few nights ago, getting ready for re-assembly.

IMG_1095.JPG

Bonnet catch painted just need to finish cleaning the springs and grease it up.
IMG_1096.JPG

Made a short burst this eve at it.
Came home and found a package from postie so delighted.

IMG_1099.JPG

Started assembling the bonnet catch back together again, nearly couldn't remember where the springs went
IMG_1100.JPG

IMG_1101.JPG

IMG_1102.JPG

an also started putting the wiring back together again, had a few lenghts of conduit laying about that was smaller diameter than the oem.

IMG_1103.JPG

IMG_1104.JPG

IMG_1106.JPG

and put the p/s bottle back in with the modified pipework, not a great pic but you can also see the new route for the wiring.

IMG_1107.JPG

Got the front in the air ready for undersealing tomorrow and front rad support and bonnet catch back on.
