My new vzr n1 version 2

Right well seen as my hands are tied wating for parts at the moment I said I'd tackle the inlet manifold. It's something that has always wrecked my head since I got the car that some little jap man went at it with black paint and a brush and ruined it.

Anyways here it was from start to as it stands now...

i then took it outside and used alloy cleaner and a powerwash to get rid of all the crap built up over the years (lots) and the recent incident left oil and metal filings in there so that had to be sorted too!

After wash

Completely missed this thread...
That engine is FUUUUCKED dude... I'd be cryin myself to sleep if I found my £100 SR20DE in that state... let alone a rare as fuck N1 motor...
Good luck with the new build though.

Small update time:

Yehaw the first lot of parts arrived from greg vocal G-spec america. I would recommend him to anyone, has stuff in when he says answers every e-mail promptly and does really cheap deals for genuine and aftermarket sr engines just so happens he specialises in VVL!

He sent the stuff last friday and I got it yesterday morn!

Now all i'm waiting on is the

Valve guides,
valves,
Springs,
Retainers,
Metal Headgasket and ACL race bearings with calico coatings from Erics performance also american company

Got no presents from america this week but was a lucky boy and landed me a set of these ....

Nice rare lucino vz-r rear lights. Like 50/50's really. This pretty much ticks the boxes for how I envisaged the exterior parts for the car just to get the graphics on now but that will have to wait until after the engine build.

where abouts you find these?!?! :O Lucky bastid, should look the shit on the N-1!!

If ya only knew where they cropped up you would just laugh! The lad that found them was a looky fooker anyway is all i'll say.

Looking for as much opinion as possible too here lads trying to decide on the engine bays apperence will I go for a completly stock but clean and new look ie: airbox back in, pulleys painted matt black etc. or go for the full on modified look samco hoses, oil cooler, alu rad etc. What do ye think?

where they crop up? over here or imports? im thinking full on modified to match the beast of an engine your goin building! cant deny the looks of a clean standard bay but this beauty will need looks to match the power!!

Then another parcel from america arrived in it were the

Brian Crower titanium springs and retainers,
Calico coated ACL race bearings,
Supertech +1mm intake and +2mm exhaust valves,
Thrust washers and other small bits,

From what I can see to build the whole engine all im short is collets and valve guides.

I'm at a pretty low point of the build right now,

Came home from work and tore into it again with it in my head that it was coming out and that was that. for the record the engine just doesn't lift straight out the top it came out that way in the end but I would never do it again nothing short of pure butchery doing it that way even tho I was assured it would if you insist on doing it that way I would ssay you should remove both upper and lower parts of the sump and the air con and crank pulley as an absolute minimum.

kinda got disheartened then to see a huge hole there after all that work my back is fecking killing me working on a lowered car when your 6ft 4in with no lift is just an out an out no no.

The rear mount and the short drive shaft decided to fight me but lost in the end lol. I got a nice suprise when I opened the bearing caps they were still the genuine N1's due to the part number and the crank hasn't so much as a mark on it neither did the shells the bores except the cylinder one were perfect.

there was however a problem in there that would have led to this anyway when I took out the pistons the other 2 were spotless clean on top but the third one was full of crap on top, I tapped it out and to my amazement the top two piston rings were seized. Explains a little misfire it had from time to time but can't really see why they were seized it had great oil servicing.

Anyway hopefully I'll have the block done and together next week and then I have to find someone to fit oversize valves any one know an engineering shop that would do it I rang a few and they **** the bed at the thought of it.

I was thinking to myself it was hard enough remove it at home with the head off i'm going to go through hell putting it back together with the head on!

Here are some prep and removal pictures. sorry for some there to jog my memory going back together.

Ya can see where some jap idiot put the sump back with too much sealer and it got stuck in the pick up pipe could have ended the engine a lot quicker.
