Nissan almera 2003 timing chain

Hi if I remove the rocker cover from the engine is there anything I can look for which will show me if the chain is in good condition or if it is stretched?
thanks

You can check the chain tensioner. If it's extended more than 12mm then it is up to the limit of adjustment. There is a thread somewhere that has a diagram on it but I can't find it at the moment.

thanks for the reply. What is the maximum the tensioner car extend to
thanks

12mm is the limit. That is a sure sign of chain stretch.
Just would like to add the car driver perfect, and has plenty of power will no missing, if the chain is gone would there be any problems with the car running?
Also Where can I find the diagram please

You would get an engine management light come on which would relate to running lean on bank 1/2 or perhaps a cam sensor fault. There's nothing you can do to prevent it really. It's more a matter of fixing it when it's gone.

thanks for the diagram, so do I just measure the tensioner thing, number 9 in the pic? Also I have a new timing chain kit laying around the house, had a look at it and the tensioner in the box and it extends to 26 mm fully out, I can push it in and out but it only does in and out around 7mm.
