almera gti sr20de more performance n/a or turbo it

Hi just picked up a 1999 almera gti and was wondering what I can gain if I upgrade the fuel pump put a 4 branch manifold and straight through stainless exhaust remapping it and possibly Camming it.

If the gains aren't much to brag about I was wondering what I need to turbo my sr20de engine as I do have a s14 that's in bits and wondering what I would need off it and if any modifications are needed. Do I need to change the wiring loom and is there anything else other than turbo, manifold ecu, intercooler? Can I use the stock sr20de inlet or do I need to change that thanks in advance. It is a budget build

I got mine to 165ish with 4-2-1 manifold, 2.5" cat back, k&n panel filter. For the turbo conversion you can use the turbo and injectors from your s14. Then you'll need a intercooler ecu of some sort and to drill a hole in the block for the oil return. It's not to much work really

Before mine was turbo'd it was 169 hp I think with cams, 4 2 1 manifold, air filter etc. there are more powerful n/a almeras but if you want much more then boost it. Wouldn't bother with a fuel pump and remap personally unless you boost.
Usually you would use the exhaust manifold and turbo off a gtir as they just bolt on. You would be good to take the injectors out of your s14 if you turbo. No change to the wiring loom, just an emanage, dastek or whichever management you want.

OK so all I would need is the gtir turbo (t28 isn't it?) Exhaust manifold and the injectors off my s14 and a intercooler. Do I need to change the inlet manifold or anything else only looking to achieve around the 200 bhp mark anything over would be a bonus

Gtir turbo (t28) and manifold, don't think the s14 manifold works on almeras. No change to the inlet manifold. You can buy intercooler kits for a gtir which work for the almera with a bit of cutting. You would also have to drill the block for oil return but that's easy enough. Think you would have more than 200 if you turbo it. There is loads of info on the site about turbo builds so if not already signed up I would definitely recommend paying for full membership.

Sorry for the repeat of info! Didn't see that post while I was typing haha! The exhaust is different so you would just need a custom downpipe made from turbo to cat.

Best power gain for £ has to be turbo. A 200hp+ n/a sr20DE at 8000+rpm is very addictive/insane/rare/expensive though.

Thanks for that and yes I would have liked to keep it n/a but it would cost an arm and a leg to get it round the 200 mark.

Turbo is the way I think so t28 turbo, manifold, intercooler, s14 injectors (do I need adaptors to fit them or bodies?) Custom made down pipe, make an oil return pipe and a s14 ecu or modify the one I've got with a different management system?

Depends what you want to do really... if you want to race stuff on the road turbo it all day.
If you want it to be reliable and do track days etc, then just strip it and give it breathing mods (160-170hp)

Well I know the issues with the sr20det bottom ends as I've done a few drifting in my s14 but there an easy fix. If I go turbo it will be pretty much a standard set up running lowish boost with prob a stage 1 map to keep consumption down and keep it reliable. The car as only done 47k hence why I I'd rather turbo the sr20 rather than buying a sr20det

Yeah that would great especially where to drill for the oil return pipe. would an s14 ecu work turbo ing the the almera or would I have to buy a management system for the ecu in now

You would need to use the whole s14 loom and every sensor, plus the S14 is lower compression so it probably wouldn't run it brilliantly!
I wouldn't bother mate to be fair.
Mapping is the biggest pain in the backside, whatever you do, it's going to cost you roughly £500 to get it set up properly.

Well I've got roughly round a grand could spare a few more quid. So would need all sensors and wouldn't a tune up with the ecu and using a management make the car run right? I've heard that the compression of a sr20de would run a turbo no problems with no issues

You'll be hard pushed to do it for under a grand mate if I'm honest...
It can be done but it's little things that bump the price up.
There's a lot more to boosting than people make out.
Consider fuel system, oil and water lines, exhaust and boost pipes/intercooler, gauges and management.
Then a good Clutch as well!
I thought I'd nail mine for under a grand but ended up spending over double that if I'm honest.

Well I've got my s14 to break and sell if I need more than a grand. Was going to use sfs hoses for all pipes etc. Was going to use a walbro 255 pump s14 injectors. A straight through stainless which I'm looking for with a down pipe aswell. Clutch will prob go for a stage 2 Competition clutch as I can get them dirt cheap. I was just wondering what I need as a list for turbo ing as I thought it would be straight forward

Exhaust will need to be custom,

Downpipe will also need to be.

S14 clutch system won't fit if you were thinking if using one.
