N14 SR20 Hillclimb car

Looks awesome. Any in car vids?
Nope, not yet. Got a gopro from santa claus but failed to figure out how to use it first 2 rounds then once I finally figured out how to use it i snapped the bloody shaft. Got a hillclimb in a couple of weeks ill try get some videos then.

Andy, never had it down the strip but I'd imagine it would be a similar weight and power as yours was when it was stripped out so should be comparable. Might take it to crail for a laugh at some point but its really built for going round corners.

Hi folks,

Not been on in a while so wee update.

Had a disaster of a year last season, broke a driveshaft at the second event. Obviously it was the short vzr shaft that broke so finding a replacement was a bastard (although I have since found out you can get a complete shaft from nissan with cv's but cannot get outer cv by itself for some unknown reason). That put me out for a few weekends. I then got it sorted, then I spun out at an event and ripped the sump pan off so that which put me out for the last couple of weekends. Joy!

It sat in the shed for a couple of months until I could be bothered to look at it. I then got a bit over excited (as is the norm over the winter months) and decided a full shell resto was needed so sent it off to Warpspeed performance in Kilbirnie for a full strip down. Shell has been completely restored and lightened to within an inch of its life including a new non sunroof roof skin then resparayed in original aj4 red. Finally got my act together and sorted a bearing for the cusco diff and fitted a 5.1fd at the same time. engine wise it is the same as last year other than the lack of a crank girdle and a new oil pan. Cooling system now a fully custom set up with a tiny rad pinched from a mini racing car.

Was quite disappointed with the times last year as they were quite close to the previous year despite a power increase of around 30bhp. This was purely due to a lack of grip. The diff and the addition of a set of avon slicks should help the traction no end. Suspension has been modified with a slight increase in rear track using gtir rear links and a big increase in caster with modified strut tops and whiteline caster bushings should help rear stability and turn in.

Big shout out to Scott at Warpspeed for his patience as I have thrown a silly amount of ideas his way. His is second to none and has a knowledge of old Nissans that would rival most of the forum 'experts'. Would think twice about recommending his bodywork and fabrication skills to anyone, so much so that the old Sunny will be carrying Warpspeed livery for the next couple of years. Heres hoping it gets out a bit more this year so people can see it!

I'll get some pictures up in the next few weeks when its all buttoned up. Got first outing at the end of May so I'll try and figure out how this gopro thing works too!

How did you setup your Cusco diff in the end?
Found a bearing that had the same od as the casing recess with i slightly smaller ID than the stock bearing. Got the diff machined to fit the bearing. Haven't used it yet but shouldn't imagine it will be an issue. If anything it should be an improvement over stock as its a slightly beefier bearing.

Good job, now surely there's some more metal you can take the hole saw to to save more weight, floorpan perhaps??

I've taken out about as much as I can within the regulations. I'm not allowed to remove anything between the wheel centres. its near enough 700kg dry weight now, can probably get just below the 700 with a lighter seat, steering wheel and some lighter engine components but theres not much else can come out!

Now that's a real race car right there! Excellent work mate. You're doing well at 700kg with such a comprehensive cage and gusset job. Kudos.

Don't know how it goes yet, only had it on and off the trailer! Off to the dyno tomorrow to get the fueling checked and map tweeked. Theres zero reinforcements went in forward of the front struts sam. The legs are still intact as is the front cross member so that the engine is still held in properly but the rest of it is there purely to hang the bodywork off of.
