Green secure message

Hi my first post here.

We recently bought a nissan almera tino 04 plate everything works fine apart from the radio on starting the car we get a secure message on the screen on a green background. The guy that sold us the car told us it was an easy fix and gave us the number of a mobile car radio reprogramer. He came out and tried but told us it was a job for a nissan dealership so we booked in with our local dealership which is where the car was originaly bought. The dealer new about the car and said that the car had been in just before the previous lady traded the car in because of this fault they are saying that the car was taken to another garage to have the timing chain replaced and at this time the battery was disconnected and this caused the radio problem and now needs a new ecu unit. This just doesnt seem right to me but thats what the dealer wants to do. They are getting back to me tomorrow with a price but i get the feeling its going to be more then the cost of the car. The car is fitted with sat nab as well but the weird thing is when the secure message comes up we can press the volume button in and it clears the message and we can then use all the functions apart from the radio even the sat nav works but after about 5 minutes the secure message comes back up and again pressing the volume button clears it.

Any help would be grateful i have thought about disconnecting the battery for 45 minutes as i have seen mentioned before but because of the garage saying its the ecu i dont want to cause any further problems as the car runs perfect apart from the radio not working.

A further update on this the dealer called today to say the car needs a new radio sat nav and cd player quoted £560 but couldn't guarantee if this would even fix the problem.

That usually happen to my Tino, but I do quick reset as follows:
- Turn ignition switch to off and remove the key.
- Open engine bay.
- Open Fuse box which is beside the battery.
- Remove Audio fuse 15A and wait for 5 seconds "if more than 5 second the radio channels and clock need setting".
- Install the fuse.
