Engine Mapping Prices

Running out of patience now, need the car mapped up. :(

Got a bad flat spot where the car seems to bog down around 2200-3000rpm and its shit.
After my best attempts to try and figure out the cause, ive finally given up.

How much should i be expecting to pay to get the car mapped? I presume its an hourly rate.

Emailed a few companies today, so i'll see what they say.
Cheers

Power Engineering
Hi-tech Motosport
Aldon automotive

Not recieved a reply though yet.

Cheers for those mate.
Hi-tech and Aldon are very local to me so im hoping the prices arent too bad.
They have come highly reccomened to me which is good.
Just been chatting to the delivery man (likes his cars) who's been following my conversion, giving him an update each time he comes round!
His mates just had his MK1 golf tuned at Hi-tech apparently, and was very happy with the results.

Best to let the pro's do their work m8, especially on your setup.

I reckon its around £60 per hour ish, Syms was at dastek in fife and iirc that's roughly the price.

Plus WE WANT FIGURES!!!!! :)

keep me updated aswell mate as ill be wanting a remap in the future now ive got a half decent sized engine.

Think thor charge £100 +vat I have herd very good things about them
Do you know if thats an hourly rate? If so, i cant afford it. :(
My budget is around £150.

How many hours am i looking at roughly? I imagine it will take a few hours for them to set it up.

hi tech isn't too far from me either, they are cheaper than aldon automotive.
I had my last GTI RR at hi tech, it cost £20 for 2 power runs. they seem like a friendly bunch i didn't have a remap but they did offer, I think that was £60ish an hour and they said it would take around 3 to 4 hours.
Aldon on the other hand is even more expensive per hour, but they do do a good job, a mate of mine put a 2.0 zetec in his escort and had to have a unichip fitted. all the tuning and fitting the chip was done at aldon and it almost came too £500 all in all

Thanks for that, very useful.
did you get print outs etc from the power runs at Hi-tech?
If they give Air Fuel Ratio readings with a power run im gonna do that for sure.

Just spoke to my mate Ed from Fusion Motorsport on your behalf about this...

This is what he had to say:
The Apexi AFC Neo is totally unsuitable for this job. It may look pretty but equally useless in a conversion like this. It cannot do ignition and that is of critical importance just turning it back a few degrees and hoping for the best will get you no where.
You need to start again on the ECU front and get something totally flexible, and more to the point totally suitable for the conversion. It is not possible to remap the GA14 ECU, however it is possible to exchange the ECU for another mappable unit such as that from a Micra, and then the job could be done properly. You would be looking at around £350 + travel for this.
Hope that helps in some way :)

James.

you do get a print out on a straight power run but not of A/F Ratio, all it is it just shows power in bhp and torque in lbft at the flywheel

You trying to depress me!?
Seriously though, thanks for looking into it for me.

Yeah, a lot of people dont like the Apexi' SAFC which is fair enough and is very true. It only alters fuelling at the end the day. I would have gone the emanage route, but this project has always been about low cost.
I know i cant adjust the igniton timing but low boost isnt going to affect it too much.
I WILL get decent results from it, im sure.

..goes and sulks.

The SAFC doesn't do enough mate it's more of a data reader. (digitally shouw's you AFR reading's etc), you need a proper piggyback computer like emanage or the dastek unichip.

It so happen's i have a dastek unichip for sale, it is also a Q series chip, which can map turbo and N/A. If your interested let me know.

As for mapping, if you want it done properly mate, (which i imagine you do!) 150quid will bag you about 2hour's top's on a dyno, if they are mapping also. 2 hour's really isn't enough. My last map took 3hour's, but because of my cam's being slightly out (they couldn't optimise everything as the cam's were noisey!) So this time its getting adjustable cam sprocket's put in, and another remap. For the final remap (as the cam's will be properly set up!) they said it will take about 3-4hours to get it spot on.

So if i were you mate id budget about 3-4hour's, plus anytime to install the chip itself (some place's won't map a chip you install yourself!)

Dastek (off the top of my head) charge:

40-45quid + VAT an hour to install the chip itself
60-65quid + vat an hour to map, they say budget for 3-4hours

that includes graph's of everything, boost, AFR, duty cycle, torque and power BEFORE and AFTER the map..

hope this info help's

oh and it takes about 15min's to put a car onto the dyno, the rest will be power run's/mapping

Yeah apexi will work, but not brilliantly. I still have the MSD sat here so you can retard the igntion but itsnot 100%

Greddy emanage is going to be the one to get. Is there specific standalon for the almeras. Simaler to how hondas have hondata crome ect.

I wish the SAFC showed me the AFR readings!! :D
It just allows me to add extra fuel across the rev range, thats it.
From a display point of view, It monitors:
Engine speed
Battery Voltage
Throttle Position
MAF voltages

Hence why i need a wideband lambda kit, or the AFR readings from a tuning centrethat uses one. Once i know what the current AFR's are, i can fiddle with the fuelling via the apexi.

Thanks for the offer on the unichip though. I'll get back to you if all else fails.

Looks like im gonna have to wait till September for mapping then to save some extra cash.

Given the choice id get an Apexi Power FC standalone managment system.

I can get you a Power FC+Commander for £350.

Way over your budget I know, but something to think about.

il sell him a dastek unichip and new harness for 100ish, just an option

thor racing charge 325quid to map an apexi power FC by the way mate
