New VVT Sprocket Replacement after Lockout - New timing chain kits

This is going to sound stupid here, but are the VVT Pulley/VVT Sprocket two seperate items

I can understand locking it out, but if you buy a new kit that comes with a new VVT pulley, then surely the solenoid must be detahced from it somehow when you lock it

I've never used the chain kit before so haven't looked yet. But from what I can see when you lock out the VVT using an allen key it becomes part of the original pulley, how exactly can you transfer it over with a new pulley?

I figure this is best posting here rather than for my car as most people will see it more
