reliabilty of a my dci engine

please can you help me. i am currently driving a nissan almera 2.2 dci 2004 plate. i have been reading on the internet that the renault dci engine has problems at 60,000. i dont know if its a renault engine or a nissan engine just wondered if to be weary of it when it comes near 60,000 miles. just am really worried about it my car has done 50,000 i would be grateful for any advice. thank you very much kev from merseyside

I have the same car and not as far as I am aware I do think they are one of the most reliable if looked after but to double check you will hav e to check with the guru, he will be along here soon x

thanks very much sexypink for the reply. i have just joined this forum tonight. asked on what diesel car but didnt get a straight answer. just am worried i know therenault dci engines has problems anyway bye for now catch you again kev

it's not a Renault engine, as Edk will tell you when he comes along. There was some turbo issues IIRC but again, im not an expert on dervs.

thanks hally i know it hasnt got a turbo.best car i have ever had they dont get the reconition they deserve. thank you once again take care bye for now

Correct, the 2.2 DCi in the Almera is very different to the Renault engine. It's a Nissan lump with a little help from the cheese eaters, as they always have done in the past with Nissan's diesels.

They're solid engines with only one notable weakness. Their turbos. Keep the oil changes regular and use a good quality oil and make sure all the recall work is done on the car (check wth your local dealer) and you should be fine. If you hear a whistling noise coming from the engine bay then get the turbo checked as it's more than likey on it's way out.

These arent scare tactics and there's no need to worry. It's just something to be aware of. The thing about the internet and forums is that you hear about someone's problem more. You don't really get everyone who doesnt have a problem come on to a forum just to say 'hi, everythings working fine!'.

Hope that helps :)

Just to add, my Dad had 2 N16s. Both 2.2 DCis bought new and both sold on with 150,000+ on the clock. Never had any problems apart from one time it conked out, called the AA and sorted it out in 5 mins (faulty sensor). I was never impressed with their gearboxes either. My Dad knew nothing of the Nissan/ Renault alliance when he said of his first N16 "they dont build them like they used to" lol. I have no doubt the N16 diesel is a good car, but compare to the build quality of the equivalent N15 and theres no contest im afraid.

I will say this, the box is a nissan/french item, but it's also the strongest FWD box that was ever put into a Nissan. I think it's smooth as hell and would put it on par with the GTi which I've driven. I love it, and I love the car.

well a big thank to you all much appreciated. tried to get advice from what diesel car website but most of them were very snotty. great website this one well laid out. thank youonce again look forward to chatting to you all. take care bye for now kev

lol I see what you mean kev - http://wdforum.trojanpublishing.net/forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1041 Not exactly the most helpful opening reply was it from them . This is the trouble though, not many people are up on the nissan diesels. I'm a member of Turbo Diesel Owners Club. It's a great forum with good people but there's no help for me there for anything nissan specific.

It seems diesel dave doesnt now nissan diesels either because if he did he would know there was never a Renault engine put into an Almera (only the X-Trail ever had both a Nissan and Renault diesel engine in it, 2.2 and 2.0 respectively). I understand though as they're not a widely known or used engine.

thanks edk it was him who replied to me diesel dave. really snotty and not helpful at all. you ask for help there andthey didnt want to know. i know the new qashqai has a renault diesel in it. the forum on there seems to be dead clicky and just interested in there own people on the forum. bunch of dickheads pardon my french. anyway thanks for taking the time.

Just buy an sr20 and u will never worry, joke!iv worked for nissan for 6 years as a mechanic, the 2.2 gave a lot of turbo trouble everyone off them in almera vans n16 and p12 primera went at some stage, also we had oil coolers go in them 2 where they mixed the oil and water, also there a very smoky engine when the milage gets up around 70k>.there not a liked engine in ireland for a lot of reasons and never sold after the first year or 2 of production.

lol yeah there's no doubt the SR20 is a stronger engine . Still, I've had no problems so far and mine's one of the first off the line :). On 62k now. Didnt know about the oil cooler so cheers for that, good to be aware of it. Was it common?

oil coolers on diesels can due out too, no doubt it will have water going through it, so if one time you notice there is oil in the water or vise versa, dont panic and think head gasket straight away, check the oil cooler

Kevls, mines on 66,000 miles and has run perfectly since March '03 with no problems. Keep on top of the oil changes, the same with any turbo'd car. I always use Castrol diesel magnatec as it's formulated to cling to metal engine parts after shut down. Good for the turbo on cold start ups.
If yer getting twitchy about the mileage, get yourself a good warranty that covers the engine and turbo. Will save you a fotune in cash if the unthinkable happens.
Hope i haven't just jinxed mine by saying that

If you have a 2.2 DCi, it does have a turbo.

Best place for DVD's will be Ebay i'm afraid!

re sat nav - http://www.almeraownersclub.com/showthread.php?p=368905&postcount=14, which says...

This answers a lot of questions. From a similar discussion happening over on NPOC:

Both the map and programme disks can be copied. I've been using a copy of my 2006 disk (original disk purchased from eBay but running a "backup" copy in the drive) for almost 2 years. I didn't have a programme disk (well had one for the original 2001 maps) but managed to aquire the correct one for the 2006 map disk.

As Renrut has said, there's two flavours of satnav for the P12. Pre-facelift P12's use the Xanavi system and post-facelift P12's use NavTeq. Neither disks are interchangeable. Newer Nissans use a different system altogether (called Connect). The last map disk made for the Xanavi is version BA06A (originally my P12 had AV601 "green" disk).

Blank disks used were dual-layered Verbaitum DVDs (or similar high-performace dual-layered DVDs). The programme disk is just a standard blank CD.

So basically you have to make sure you're buying the right one from Ebay. Our systems like the later P12 Primera our Navteq. I believe support for the Almera finished in 2006 and I dont think there are any further updates. You could buy from Navteq but it's going to cost you.
