Sams VZ-R N1

So a few updates, car was taxed again for the summer, nothing really changed with the car.

A nice oil change for a fresh start

Swapped out the import centre console for a UK one with the appropriate brackets to allow me to put the gauges in the top slot and move the heater controls down, all in with the flocked dash.

Fitted a different washer bottle, freeing up space behind the bumper.

Booked a track day at Castle Combe through the MLR club with some guys from work, was an awesome day.

Car handled brilliantly, sounded great and went very well.

Then this happened.

because of this

at 8k rpm dumping all the oil in a split second, luckily I seemed to react quickly enough, more lucky is the fact it never caught fire, it did however paint the entire underside of the car including the rear wheels as you can see when I pulled onto the grass.

We can only put it down to the sandwich plate fitting being over tightened, Ive never personally seen this part fail before.

Now imagining the engine was toast, I took a few steps before firing up the engine, namely checking all I could, and winding the engine over by hand a few times, flushing some oil through and checking for any metal.

I then filled up the engine put on a new filter cranked it over to build up some pressure then crossed fingers and fired it up

Relief... for now anyway, after running it for 5 minutes I dropped this oil and checked it for any metal, all looked good so I put another filter on and some more oil in and fired it up one more time.

Ive changed a few more bits, fitted new Master and Slave clutch cylinders with a braided clutch line.

Thats where Im at for now, going to keep a close eye on the engine as something could still go wrong.

Incredibly lucky, the tyres were saturated with oil, and most impressive it never caught fire. Can only put that down to it being a large volume of oil rather than being a vapour.

Fair play on the quick reflex's dude unfortunate but glad as well. Looks so mean kitless on track. :O
