Hi All,

I bought some better sparkplugs for my 2002 1.5 Almera, thinking that changing a spark plug can't have changed too much in the last 10 years . . . LOL . . .so I look in and can't see normal sparkplug cables, which simply pulled out of the back of the plug, and then you unscrew the blighters, replace them and Bob's your Uncle . . . tada, new plugs inserted correctly!

Well, i have this ignition coil thingie now that I'm supposed to unscrew first, and a locking bolt, and . . . oh dear God, i feel like my Mom!!!

Anyway, anyone know a good link to step by step instructions with pics so I can follow it?? Car engines used to look normal to me . . . maybe I'm getting too old!!! ;) :D

Oh, and by the way . . . Hi, i'm the newbie . . . haze me later!! :rasp:

WELCOME!

some cars don`t have dizzy`s or leads now. My brothers saxo vtr supprised me in this respect. I assume yours is the same so just unbolt and unplug the `rail` that goes ontop of the plugs and pull it off.

Hi rowdy-GTi!

thanx for replying.

I looked in the user manual, and it was the where I got all that ignition locking bolt stuff . . .

I've got a picture of the "rail", or what I think is the "rail" . . . I took off both nuts (in red), and I could get a little wiggle, but it looked to me that I would also need to remove the connections at both ends (in blue).

Seems that all of this is a bit much just to change spark plugs.

Is this the right "rail"??

That look like the fuel rail so leave alone! In the 2nd pic see the 4 connectors at the bottom, maybe the plugs are under them??

rowdy-GTi - I figured the plugs were under that, and will see if there is a way to get the clips undone without taking that bleedin' bar thingie off. I was hoping someone would be able to point me to an authoritative answer. I can usually find things on the internet a, it's been part of my job for the last 6 years, but I am having difficulty finding an answer to this! I may have to *shudder* take it in to a garage to have the plugs changed by perfessionuhls!!!!!

Dave - yes, pretty good off the start, but my clutch is bit tight, so it's possible to stall if your pedal work is sloppy. i tend to have lost the racing instinct back in my 20's, so do a nice easy start, but it does drive well on the motorway, nice and smooth even upwards of 160kph.

Lol i'm keeping quiet here...

Aint got a clue about anything for the N16's...

is ur 1.5 quick off the mark ? I've heard they are quite nippy... obviously more so than the 1.4 (N15 models)

Friendly reminder :
Please keep posts relevant, if you don't have anything useful of constructive to say, don't spam the thread - thank you :)

Here's the relevant page from the FSM...

Just a matter of unclipping the wires and pulling the coils off the top of the plugs like you would on normal leads.

whoa, I opened those up and only saw a really long pole, so assumed that it wasn't the right thing . . . thanx for pointing me back in the right direction. I have been able to change the plugs now, the carbon buildup was realloy bad . . . I bought this car back in March, and it was supposed to have a full service, but those plugs looked like they were older than 7 months old.

Anyway,

Thanx again!!!!

;):D

There is a good video on utube they don't have a rail as some said but 4 individual coils with single lock bolt at top take bolt out and pull coil out will need long reach plug spanner to replace plugs good tip is to use a small length of 1/2 in hose to hold plug to start screwing in avoids Cross threading then replace coils and lock nut all good don't get them mixed up I painted 1__4 on mine
