2002 1.5 gearbox

i just bought a 2002 almera 1.5, the gear box has fallen apart, took it out last weekend and its in bits. iv been looking around the scrapyards and not much hope of a 2nd hand box. is this a common problem with this model? i got the almera because of a good rep with reliability. any suggestions about what to do for a new box? are any other models and years compatable with mine?

yup its a common fault, I have been through 3 or 4 1.5 gearboxs. I have done a swap with a Primera 1.8 gearbox its a much stronger box then the 1.5 one

Darren

post some pics up of it. or e-mail them to me.

for the swap I used
2x N16 QG18DE Drive Shafts
Both shifter rods from the N16 QG18DE
Rear engine mount bracket (it holds onto the gearbox then to the engine mount)
P11-144 QG18DE (DBuill said it looks very similar to the P11-144 SR20DE one but im not sure if its the same)

its a straight forward swap apart from cutting 2 wires and extending them and re-routing them (neutal position gear sensor)

to be honest if you are planning to keep the car I would swap it over
N16 1.5 Gearbox (£300)
P11-144 1.8 gearbox (£180)
I forgotten how much I paid for the shifter rods, rear bracket and drive shafts (I think it was about £100)

its still cheaper then putting a 1.5 box back in lol (I learnt the hard way by running round getting P11-144 shifter rods as I could not get hold of N16 ones then etc etc)

here is some 1.5 gear box's

and acoording to ebay the P11-144 QG18DE and P11-144 SR20DE are the same but I use a QG18DE

thanks again!

Hi guys, How you doing? May I intoduce myself to you in this post, As its my ist...

I also have an almera 2002 model, & have just started looking into a gearbox replacement!

& may I say, The above posts, Are Excellent & was wondering if the Conversion is 100% compatible?

Are the gearbox ratios gonna make the Final drive ratio differ by much atall?

Meaningless to say, I am finding it hard to source a Cheap replacement, I have already got mine OUT & in the garden, Its shredded a bit of the bell housing, a bearings busted, & the arms been repaired & broken again, LOL! (by someone)...

Am really interested in getting my car back on the Road ASAP!

Thanks in advance!

Daz, would a 'mera 1.8 box fit?

As ive got one available...

Hi I aint got enough posts to PM, BUT could you give me more details about your box? Is it from one in the lists by darren?

Please let me know, Cheers....

& Darren could you just give me a once over in as to what model primera gearbox & age car I need?
cheers...
:turned:

ok so to put it straight, I need:

Almera 1.8 2001-02 Driveshafts & rear gearbox mount, & gear changing linkages x2...

& then a Gearbox from a 1.8 Nissan Primera P11-144 (Mk II Facelift, 1999-2002)

OR any almera 1.5 gearbox from 2001 -2006?

looking for driveshafts for a 1.8 & can see them with & without ABS & Automatic tranny ones?

Areet lads. Not.sure if it would be any good or not but I have a 1.5 gearbox for sale at the min. It has done 103k but worked perfectly fine for me before it was removed! The only reason it was removed its because I got another almera with lower mileage on which I was taking the engine out of for mine anyway so I thought i may aswell just swap the box too. I'm presuming its normal on a mera but for the 1st couple of mins it won't go into 1st unless you are doing 10mph or less. I say I'm presuming its normal as I have drove 3 petrol n16 mera's and everyone of them were the same! Mine done it from the day I got it and was no worse at all the day it was removed! If either of you's are interested give me a text on 07891603333 the mora anytime arter 9am. It's a lot cheaper than the ones on ebay!

thats correct. basicly thats what you need. also as for drive shafts if you have ABS you need ABS Drive shafts. if you have ABS and you can't find ABS drive shafts then get some none ABS ones and then swap the inner CV joint over to the 1.5 drive shaft. I had to do this with one of my drive shafts as I could not find a Passenger side.

I am not 100% sure if the almera 1.8 gearbox will fit or not but I know the Primera P11-144 QG18 will fit.

My mate I bought the car from said he tryed a primera gearbox (Not sure what model) BUT it was too big, & the bolt lug pattern was not all lining up??? & it would just not fitt, & need a proper almera one????

Hes the one that physically tryed fitting it...

Still trying to source an OEM almera type...

yes but the primera P11-144 has two types of gearboxs one for the SR20DE (bigger bell housing) and one for the QG's (smaller bell housing) have a look at my gearbox research and you will see.

I really intend on getting to the End of this...

I am in talks with a few people, Lets see what happens....

I will Post up ASAP....

Cheers...

ok then the QG15DE bell housing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Darren198712/QG15DEGeabox.jpg

the QG18DE from the P11-144
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Darren198712/P11144QGGearbox.jpg

as you can see the bolt holes are different thats why you need the rear gearbox bracket

looks like this (I brought a P11-144 one thinking it will be the same as the QG18DE one on the N16 but it was not)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Darren198712/RearGearboxMount.jpg

this is why you need the shifter rods
http://home.comcast.net/~myprojectb13/P11Trans/Stabalizer_Mount.jpg
on the QG15DE the shifter rods and stabliser rods sit in different locations
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Darren198712/ShifterRods.jpg

this is why you need the drive shafts (gearbox side is different)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v256/Darren198712/CVJoints.jpg

I can't find a picture of the bell housing of the SR20DE but its a lot bigger as I placed a SR20DE flywheel inside the bell housing of the QG15DE/QG18DE gearbox and it would not fit

I thought I was technical, But you just blew me right out....

What are your views on a 1.6 almera gearbox? Picking up some front wings & a quater glass window from a guy whos breaking a 1.6 almera...

I have No access to nissan info & gearbox codes etc..

BUT looks like you have done your fair share of research...

Almera 1.6 gearbox ???? the only Almera 1.6 I know was the older shape almera (N15)

Thats what it was advertised as, BUT there was an internet pic of a silver n16, So I thought I would contact, & most parts are still available...

I hope it is a 1.5! I am gonna confirm ASAP....

print off the pictures of the gearbox and compair them the SR20DE gearbox bell housing is a lot bigger. it might be a good idea to take the gearbox out of the car and compair it with the one that they are trying to sell.

I forgotten to add if you changing the 1.5 gearbox to a 1.8 then you will need to extend the neutral position gear sensor wiring

1.5 gearbox

Speed sensor (if you have a phase 2 with ABS then there is no speed sensor (just a blanking plate) if you have a phase 1 with ABS or without there will be one of these sensors.

If all goes well, in a few days, I should have my hands on a proper 1.5 box, (From Mr.knightrider! )
Would save the messing around with different parts & suplliers...

Shall let you know how I get on....
