To de-stripe or not to de-stripe

when you came over the other day, i was looking at your car and there was something odd about it but i couldnt put my finger on it, its THE STRIPE....take it off

It's funny how people often leave bird shit on their car but I wonder if they'd do the same if someone took a big meaty curler on their bonnet.


*Bird poo is made up of uric acid so is a lot worse for your paintwork than a TURD.

Yeah I had this brand new courtesy honda with delivery mileage, and i let a big bird shit sit on the bonnet for a week, then washed it off when it was time to give it back. It had eaten through the lacquer and left an imprint. I should be slapped.

The difference though is that bird shit doesn't stink.

And garnz, yeah i'm going to be polishing the whole car with quicky's orbital machine on friday, which is why I need to take off the stripe now or never, as it'll be easier to blend in at this point.

lol speaking of which I saw a Smart car in pink and silver the other day with the entire interior decorated in Hello Kitty stuff! Even a had a huge decal of hello kitty that ran over door and rear panel and a decal on the rear window saying "this car is powered by fairydust".

Poor bloke in the passenger seat was ducking hehe.

You know less is more! so rid of the stripe already!
 
Alright alright! The stripe is going once I get back from work. I'll do most of it tonight, and then take off the bit I sprayed during the day on thursday. Watch this space for new pictures.

I never put it on though, it came with the car. I'm assuming it wouldn't have come from factory like this, and it was probably a previous owner?
 
Deffo take em off mate. I took my shitty whiteey/grey stripe off my black GTi...it makes a subtle difference. Just used a hair dryer to warm em up then peeled them off. Came off pretty easy. Then just polish the glue residue off after it don't leave any marks at all :)

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately this means I'll have to wait till I can drive to someone else's house and use their driveway, as I live three floors up! Will prob do it tomorrow morning.

you seriously need to buy a convertor numb nuts

cpl of quid, plug it into your ciggy and instantly go plug use!


just get them off and stop winging
 
I have a convertor, numbnuts. However I doubt it will be able to provide a constant 800 watts or whatever a hair dryer needs. I'll have a look later.
 
OK. Stole the missus's hairdryer and took off the stripes yesterday. Was surprisingly easy. At first I used too much heat and ended up leaving some of the glue on. But quickly managed to find a happy medium where the stripe just peeled off in long sections. Took about 15 mins in total.

Love white mera's.
Maybe think about painting the slats of you're grille black, makes a nice contrast! :)
Also you could consider removing mudflaps and getting a black vinyl like the GTi has between the side windows :)
