STOLEN 99' Spec Almera GTi

or the money towards turbo'ness for more bhp/lb-ft, or towards a new car or............. even towards something i actually want ay. the SSAC isn't a bad item tbf, being a big tube gen 4-5 hotshot copy. however its easy to design something better.

sadly not Sam, this is from the continent.

The SSAC packs a pretty good punch. If you had bigger cams or had a higher C.R then yes, you'd see good gains.

turrrrrrrberrrrrrrrrr would be amazing a super clean shell with a nice 220bhp turbo setup all stealth black intercooler and pipes...

ahhhh cant sell, no.

judging by just how quick Joe's 5dr went on 1/4 mile with just a decent header *not eBay, i think you're wrong Ian. a good makes all the difference

Ok Dave, you fit that header and run a 13s 1/4 mile. Simple isn't it?

Then....... take it to a back street dyno claim you have 196hp, guess you made 163whp oh and of course 180lbs of torque. The most ever from a SR20DE, just 20lbs shy of a £20000+ BTCC SR20 engine.

All for £500 outlay.

Then wake up and realise it was a dream, a spike on the graph ( most likely ) or your mate at the dyno fudging the figures to make you feel better.

If you already know the answers, dont ask the questions.

PS. The Ebay header makes more HP than the ASP. ( unless of course you rev higher, have higher compression, or BIG cams ....i just made that up though, its not fact ).

Dyno day back in 2011 just after Dave got rid of his Tomeis/ASP
  • Ishy - 209WHP / 221 @ fly / 236.73 lbs *Turbo
  • Rowdy 191.8whp / 211 @ fly / 156 lbs *DE
  • Dale - 186whp / 202 @ fly / 157 lbs *DE
  • Kurt - 184whp / 211 @ fly / 139 lbs *VVL
  • Eddie - 148.77whp / 161.88 fly / 139.79 lbs *DE
  • Patchie -145.28whp / 161.36 @ fly / 137 lbs *DE
  • David - 136whp / 155 bhp @ fly / 131lbs *DE
  • Stu-E - 133whp/ 153 bhp @ fly / 126.79 lbs *DE
  • Hassan - 125.6 whp / 143@ fly / 124.5 lbs *DE

  • mavrick8960 - 118bhp (1.5 N16 w/ catback and induction kit)
  • Frank (90bhp)
  • mov - 187whp / 213 @ fly / 139 lbs *HONDA
Personally don't see how after loosing your Cams/Header putting it back on you would gain 41bhp and 49ft/lb to get 180 pounds of torque without upping compression ratio

tbf the variables with 1/4 mile, fair out weigh those on a 'repeat' rolling road visit. if you look at the rolling road graph, you'll see runs at 17' and 19' base timing. spike @ the exactly same rpm each time, mmmmm doubtful.

when you first had your Autech i remember me you and dale all around the 15.1-15.3 times on that day. your mate jump'd in yours and end'd up doing a 14.7 irrc.......... ive never claimed to be a drag racing God. skill with less power = quicker times, to which Joe & wezz back in the day are testament to this. myself, tommo and kurt back in the day, all tasty SR's with lacklustre performance.

  • David - 136whp / 155 bhp @ fly / 131lbs *DE
interestingly is the N15 GTi transmisson lost circa 19hp or would one just add 20% to the whp to calculate the bhp? i have a feeling 163whp wasn't a correct working out by me from the bhp of 196bhp...................

PS @ Eddie, return dyno visit after fitting asp, cams and 'pulleys' gained 30hp - FACT. which became only 0.2sec over 1/4 mile LOL but meh

I've still got the slips from that day, he was faster than me by .4-.5 but the terminals are the same give or take 1-2mph.

That's what you need to be looking at.

Jerko's terbo putting in 109-110mph terminals should be good for low 12's... But traction off the line isn't letting him get that.

Lets not forget the Aldon dyno run with Tomies and ASP which was 170ish HP and normal torque figures.
Dave i'm not having a go at you, the Tomies, or the ASP. You're a nice guy. They're good cams, and it's a very good header. I'm sure if i fitted one to mine i'd gain 5ish peak HP. Thats realistic.

With those mods 180lbs torque isn't achievable. Anyone with basic knowledge of DEs knows that. You would have so easily ran a 13s with that amount of power.

END

Was that your 196bhp dyno place or the one where we all went to (group of figures posted just above)

If you went back to the dyno place I & lots of others went to with ASP/Cams re fitted and gained 30bhp id be quite interested

aldon again a different rolling road outfit to which i was all of 6bhp of your

high comp,
reworked head,
BIG cams,
no water pump,
more rpm,
map'd ecu so i dont honestly think did that bad?

maybe with strippage and shaggy @ wheel Ian LOL

Anyone with basic knowledge of DEs knows that 166bhp is achiveable with filter, header, exhaust, apr, decat and timing. returned to that very same rolling road with asp over eBay header, pulley and poncams and made 30hp more. not forgetting joe made only 155bhp at hi tech with E/I/H/C/F

I'm not talking about my previous results. I didn't have BIG cams on my old spec, or tune my fuel pressure to get a higher reading.

Hi-Tech 196hp
Aldon 174hp

Same car. Same spec. 22hp difference!!

Can't you see why people question the Hi-Tech figure?
How can you account for 180lbs of torque from an unopened block?
Stop skirting the issue.

Ebay header puts down more HP than the ASP. Fact. Tomies over OE cams. 8-12hp gain. Fact.
Your sums dont add up.
