last minute advice for a N15 gti?

Right hopefully after 4pm today am going to be a owner of a N15 GTI.... going to meet the owner halfway to do a swap on my missus 307. Any last advice to look for?
by the way how much is tax on the gti and also what mpg ppl achieving around town. mid 20's would be great ( stop the missus moaning)lol

From cold you may hear a slight rattle from the engine, that is just the chain tensioner, it needs oil pressure to operate, you can get an updated tensioner now though that will rectify this.

thank you so the chain is nothing to worry about. sorry just questions going through my head that I need to ask

Apart from the usual 2nd hand car stuff..

Rust (arches, sills, rear seatbelt mounts, crossmember, sump), sticky calipers, clicking cv joints are the main ones.

Some have an issue with temperamental central locking due to damp actuators (easy enough fix).

Some have a problem with heater blower only doing off or full due to blown resistor. Another easy fix.

Check if clutch cable is fully stretched (under fuse box beside battery) as that could explain sticky first/reverse.

If test driving remember all the power comes above 4000 revs and a bit of a flat spot at 3500 is usual as that's 70 in 5th so it goes a bit leaner for economy.

It'd mean just a new cable. The cable adjuster nut screws toward the firewall IIRC so if that can't be tightened up anymore then it's new cable time

There's a nut to adjust it at the end in the engine bay, easy enough to see if there is any thread left tighten it. If it's fully stretched probably just needs a new cable, cheap replacements tend to stretch more than Nissan's.

Edit: heh, Dylan beat me to it.

how do you test if cv is clicking?

When test driving the car, go full lock either direction and if you hear a clicking noise coming from the front end then one or more of them are gone. A torn cv gaiter is usually the reason for them to go when dirt gets in or the joint is let run dry

nope a real disappointment! didn't even bother taking the car for a test drive! The owner say the bodywork is near enough immaculate and no rust! Well the front bumper was rattle cans so was the rear which was hold on by 2 tie wraps! The sideskirts were held into place using wood screws!! Yes the rear arches had no rust is because some idiot used hammerite and printed over the top... To summon it up I though it was a totally different vehicle to what the owner previously sent to me. A waste of a 200 mile round trip!:(

Wow, tough break mush.

Had a similar wasted journey to Wales a bit back, that shit really does stink.

Seems that the camera does lie, looks great in the pics.
