Jumping out of 5th Gear

Hi
Took my N16 1.5 petrol for its first decent run today and it drives very well.
Gears 1-4 are smooth as silk...however, 5th gear is not.

1. When I accelerate reasonably strongly in 5th it jumps back into neutral.
2. When I accelerate slowly in 5th I can feel the gear lever move back a couple of inches.

It has 62k on the clock and a FSH.

Apologies if this is a duplicate but a search didn't reveal anything similar.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance
Dave

Many thanks Liam, will send it back to the dealer who gave me a 1 month warranty on the box and engine
appreciate it

Unfortunately as good as the n16's are,the 1.5's are prone to gearbox trouble although i's not normally jumping out of a gear... it more the gearboxes just seize up or go bang,it's a design fault this can happen at any mileage. The gear stick movement is a sign that the synchro/fork is worn on the 5th gear,it's easier and cheaper just to replace the complete gearbox. As said bad/loose rear mount can cuase selection problems too,so check that first.

Yes I would check engine mount
First although I had gearbox problems with my almera I ended up replacing with a 2001 mine was 2003, didn't have problems after that look for a breaker with a low mileage car.
