My 'mera GX 1.6

Been a member on here for bout a month now but don't have a thread in this section so here's my story

My first car was a 97 toyota starlet 1.3. it was a great car and really quick. but unfortunately somebody crashed into me and done £2000 worth of damage.

This is it. after the crash and it doesnt look like 2k of damage if you can even spot it.

Yes it is a fabulous shade of "coral pink" What of it?

So i was carless. the search was on. after browsing the autotrader i decided on an almera. went to see an N16. and it was a total DOG. left fairly dishearted as i was promised it was a great car.

Further enquireys into almeras of the N15 and N16 variety and i came across an absolute peach. phoned the guy, took a half day off work and travelled the 200miles to newcastle to see it on a prayer that is the one.

pull up and the house and instantly fell in love with this baby here.

Nissan Almera '98. 1.6 GX. With (get this) 25,000 Genuine miles on the clock.

Only flaw was the heater only worked on 4. which you charming lot assisted me in repairing myself.

so i had collected the car and brought it back to sunny scotland. first job was to install my JVC head unit with built in ipod adapter. after some cursing at the fact its a cage type fitting i had it ready to blast.

Next job was to clean the interior of a foul smell of ciggarette smoke. This took ages with a carpet cleaner but was well worth the effort.

Since then it been basic mods here and there, improvements and tinkering.

took a bottle of t-cut to the engine bay and removed all the grime and gave the cam cover a rough polish.

The made and fitted the custon front grille.

Some more pictures.

Few things planned for the future but that is all money dependant as to when its gonna happen.

Looks good mate, get some GTi alloys a GTi bumper and loose the bumpstrips :)

your onto a winner

You've done well to get one with such low mileage the engine's hardly been run in!
The bump strips are glued on, it's quite a job to piggle the glue off but worth it in the end, just don't park it in any supermarket car parks.

Aye, the 5 door ones look loads better without bumpstrips.

Lowered on aset of GTi alloys it could look rather nice mate. Great colour too :)

deglobing is actually something i forgot about. i get paid tommorow so ill rush off to halfords to get some silvatechs or whatever you call them.

Depends what you want it for-Its a mint example and i think a really good buy for general use. For modding its fine as long as you've got the money to spend on it as it obviously needs alot doing to it because its such a basic model and main downside for me is that its the 5 door model.

My bro got a 5-door for practicality, but managed a SR20VE conversion: a right sleeper, except it has a very loud exhaust! So I agree, it all depends how much you want to spend but just because its a 5 door doesn't mean you're off to a bad start mate. The general feeling in the forum is a moderation between a standard look and clean choices on mods make for a enhanced looking 'mera.

Like peeps have said get some GTi alloys on them. Put some black vinyl (matt or whatever) in the rear pillar so that it improves the lines of the car window. Get some lowered springs or save up for some coilovers.
Paint the callipers and handles, see if you can get hold of a GTi rear spoiler.

Get in touch with "o Dog" for some replica GTi skirts and bumpers; keep an eagle eye on the SALE threads for these parts - or you may find some bargains at a local scrappy.

Oh and do the Punto MkII Rear Wiper mod and that'll be you pretty much set.

I was going to do a photoshop but instead i remembered one blue 4-door ph2 i really liked.

Chris180 on here, (now owns a black gti) his old si was lovely.

Looks well looked after mate.

GTi alloys are next on my list. and i take it the bump strips are just glued onto these cars?

i've got a full set of 5 GTi alloys with shite tyres that'll sell cheap. As long as i get ur steelies in return. lol

I was meaning to post some pics of my old car to show you what you could do. Btw Mattmera is selling those anthracite GTi alloys by the way, I sold them to him when I sold my Si (and he lives in Galashiels) so ain't far away either.

Simple things which I did like painting wing mirrors, door handles and bumpstrips made a huuuge difference. Adding GTi spoiler, GTi wheels, GTi backbox and a laguna front splitter, clear side repeators and de-globing was big difference too. Turned a pretty shitty wee car as standard into something pretty decent imo. Apart from that you'd need to change your grill and headlights to get it looking like mine (if you wanted to that is). Heres how it stood once I finished then moved onto a GTi

Love that pic ^^^

That looks ace chris. GTi backbox is a must i think. but i wanna get some alloys sorted first. just depends what deals come along.

anyone know where i can get a GTi backbox?

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!!

If you do get a GTi backbox, you MUST also get the GTi mid-section, as it wont fit otherwise. :)

Just so you know. ;)
