New Tino Owner

Hi All,

Have recently purchased a 2005 Tino SE with the Non-Intercooled 2.2 DCi Engine for the wife as the main family car.

It ticked all the boxes as regards to what she was looking for in a car and was chosen over the competition (Scenic, Multipla etc) due to its hopefully Japanese Reliability.

Its has a few teething issues, like some soot out the exhaust when I first give it a bit of harder acceleration (Long after its warmed up) and the Radio just shows a green secure message.

From reading posts, I think my first jobs are ECV Valve Clean, MAF Clean and Disconnect battery for 30 mins, to see if any of these are a simple fix to the above.

How is the Non-Intercooled engine for reliability compared to the intercooled 136 one? Is the turbo failure mainly on the 136 or are both effected equally?

Anyway, overall she loves the car, her Gran can get in and out easy and wife can reverse it without hit a wall (which she did twice in the MG ZT-T we had before) :)

regards

Welcome :)

Non-Intercooled engine's turbo is different and you wont have any common issues there.

Good start cleaning the EGR valve and intake. Are you using the Wynns aerosol? That's the stuff to use. There's also a proper ECU and pump reset you can do. Instructions are in the FSM which can be downloaded from these forums.

Hi EDK,

Thanks for the reply, I purchased the non-intercooled as my research suggested it was a more reliable unit, so it good to have that confirmed. The car has done zero mileage in the last 6 months, so a few housekeeping jobs are in order :).

I serviced her on the weekend, new oil, and filters although I could not find the fuel pump to drain any water (will look again this weekend).

I was going to use carb cleaner on the EGR but will go and buy the wynns stuff instead.

The smoke isn't too bad, I probably notice it more as i'm looking and can see a haze in the car behinds headlights when I boost up the turbo. Its not a lot, more so on first boost.

I will also do the ECU and pump rest over the next few weeks.
