Twitching rev counter and shuddering on acceleration

I have 2001 1.5 petrol and my engine shudders mainly on accelerating and the rev counter twitches too. Just passed MOT with advisories and one of those was engine management light being on. Looked at other forums and a lot of people seem to think timing chain? Although the person who created said thread replied saying their mechanic said chain was fine... Help please! If it is that ive heard it is expensive?

Chain if the code is for cam/crank sensors.Check the tensioner plunger to confirm,if it's sticking out anymore than 10 mm,the chain needs replacing.

Need to remove the rocker cover and upper timing chain(disconnect the cam sensor also) cover to expose the tensioner.Located right under the intake cam sprocket.

Upper timing chain cover has few bolts (10mm) and 2 x 10mm nuts) you might need to give it a slight tap after removing them as it will be held still with the factory sealant.

If you happen to need a chain and fitting it,the chain kit is approx £90 for your engine (FAI brand) labour at garages will vary...but around £300 common.
