N15 GTi Track Car

After a few hard drives in the warm weather i`ve realised the stock GTi radiator is pants. The extra power and revs appear to create alot more heat. Its not getting really hot, but more than it used to, and i just know it would overheat on a track.

I`m getting a P11 Rad which is much thicker and should provide better cooling. I`m also thinking of ditching the meziere in favour of a standard pump, underdrive pully, and a stretched to fit drive belt. I`m doing that more for weight saving than anything.

Interesting to hear its getting hotter than previously.

Might also be an option to box in the radiator, so all the air thats comes through the front bumper must go through the rad, instead of escaping down the sides?

P11 rad sounds like a good call though, they arent a direct fit though are they?

Theres a big P10 aluminium one that is on ebay now and again, think it is 30mm thickness, maybe 35mm (standard is 25mm or so). It wont be direct fit as it is different to a P11 rad, but the lower mounting points should be similar and the hoses will go in the same places I think. They're usually about £120 BIN. Worth keeping an eye out as one of those would be a good upgrade.

Put one of the fans on a switch too, the standard one doesn't come on to around 100c, so I flick mine in at around 85c when in traffic. Deffo go back to a pump though, mine sits at 70c all day on track.

If a P11 rad fits the N15 while it also fits Darren's N16 then a DCi rad would be a good N15 upgrade. It's huge. And the overflow outlet is on the right side unlike the P11's.

How do you control your temperature with the meziere, is it wired on permanantly?

Im thinking of running like that until i can afford a davies craig controller, have you removed the thermostat or drilled out the hole in it?

Top job on the black spliter, i might end up going back to a vzr bumper and splitter

He will eventually I reckon Ed...

Its the height that made the fitment of the P11 (GT) rad a bit shonky, 15-20mm less would of been ideal.

Don't suppose you have a measurement do you?

I don't but will get one although the grey ones has long since been scrapped so give me a bit to get a measurement from the black one. However you might have the same height issue then.

The Autech uses the rad from the diesel N15's its huge when compared to my N1 rad which must have come from a moped

I bet an oil cooler would help you alot Ian if the water is getting hotter than usual the oil certainly will be.

Wired permanently with no stat.

Did...

On closer inspection it looks like its just the rads casing thats larger, the core is the same as a GTi.

100% sure on that? There`s a big difference in weight between the 2.

I`m not changing the Meziere because of cooling issues. Mainly weight and keeping it simple.

I`ve just looked on the nissan parts cat`.
GTi rad weight 1.93kg.
N15 Diesel 3.1kg
P11 GT: 3.4kg.

Thats more than just extra casing. As the N15 Diesel rad core is 2.5kg alone.

get your rad re-cored ian, but with a copper core, there is a rad specialist near me and i mentioned it to him, he said bring your rad down and we will re-core it with a copper one no bother
