Ok so I havent finished yet, but im getting there slowly…
I got my Autech SR-V pods from japan about a couple of months ago and they have been sitting in my Pulsar cupboard for a while while I finished exams and moving back home from uni for the break… since they are from a non-SSS series one front bumper they are slightly different shape than my series one bumper I have on my car, so naturally I went about modifying them to suit my front…
They are slightly different shape and they do not have a cut-out for the brake ducts/tyre coolers in the bottom lower corners of the SSS s1 front bar.
I got the pods and they looked like this… They had numerous scrapes on them and the silver paint had started cracking.
First of all I wrapped each pod in some cling wrap and then in some cotton lyrca to get a good shape to which I would start the fibreglass mould on…
Then I mixed some fibreglass resin and coated the whole face of the pod in it.
When this dried, it became a really nice surface but wasn’t as hard or rigid as I had liked (hence the absence of the fibreglass cloth)
Then I when about layering the pods in fibreglass cloth and resin…
This wasn’t the nicest looking job, and I knew that, I just wanted to get a mould at which I would shape the new pods from…
This is what they have come out like.
I obviously need to sand it back and make sure the surface is clean and smooth for the new pods to take shape, but that comes later…
I’ll hopefully get round to shaping the new pods in the next couple of weeks and then get them sprayed and fit them up…
I’m not 100% confident that it would work, I just wanted to see if I could mould something and maybe in the future make more copies…
Thanks for reading
Cheers
