Ok, Must be a a lowport thing not having it,

I wonder if it would be beneficial to/possible to add one to my build? anyone got an idea if it will fit, does it take place of the bare crank bearings in the lowport Sr?

They come in the old non roller lowports too, I think it's just an 8cw thing. They can be used with the main bearing caps but you jeed longer studs to suit

well the *hx bearings range have larger clearances of 0.001" over the middle size nissan bearing they are based on, like I said I'd hope for better numbers but its your engine :)

If i was building a 300hp+ DET i would measure everything properly. A little slackness in a hot running, abused engine isn't always a bad thing.
Good luck with the build dude.

Had a few hours tinkering with the lump today got the pistons and rods in the block and them all torqued and angled up..

i got the technique for fitting CP's locking rings down to a T by the 4th one..

then had to go get some rubber O-rings as the one I had put aside for the oil pump had gone missing.. I had wanted to get the pump and chain on and also the oil pans but that will have to wait till tomorrow.

had another few hours on it today..

I bought Hallys old head that he and dale converted to non roller rocker to rape it for its lovely BC springs and titanium retainers also the rocker stoppers will come in handy..

so I ripped it apart with the old spring compressor

having salvaged those bits I moved onto the S14 head it has had a 3 angle valve head job done on it and I added a small radius to the sharp edges on the cylinder head to try and cut down on hot spots on the edges..

one of the broken guides the shop replaced:-

they also Cut the valves ready to drop straight in..

next up was replacing the stem seals with these supertech items..

after another session with the spring compressor I had an S14 head with newly refinished valves seals and uprated springs and retainers..

also got the oil pump and water pump bolted up..

more work..

I checked the valve seal against the head with white spirit..

filled them then went for a bacon sarni.. not a drop came through so next up was bleeding the lifters.. I think I got more oil on the bench but got them done :D

After that I got on with sorting the shims after ages collecting every spare I had over 3 different places I got a full set of guide type shims in the correct sizes..

modified rockers..

Cosworth 1.5mm 87mm head gasket..

I would have just got new Nissan head bolts as they are more than good enough for what im planning but these came up at a bargain price so it was rude not to..

head finally on the block

New upgraded chain tensioner..

and at the end of the day today.. all timed up and spinning free which is nice :D
